Reap means to cut with sickle or a knife. So essentially it just refers to the grim reaper killing someone. Playing Death. Doesn't need to be about souls or afterlife. He just wanted to kill them.

You know how death reaps souls, that's basically what happened and what he did to his kids, he killed them.

so since the father havent been able to talk to his children he killed them all to talk in afterlife??

that could one way to interpret the episode, since the wife was already dead, and soon he was near death, he probably made it a goal to bring the family together once again.
